Zombies!!!

Contenuto: 30 Map tiles, 50 cards Event deck, 100 plastic Zombies, 6 plastic Shotgun Guys (pawns), 30 Life tokens, 60 Bullet tokens, 2 six-sided dice, rulebook.

Descrizione

Zombies!!! is a boardgame inspired by horror movies where hordes of undead creatures invade a city devouring its unlucky inhabitants, and few brave heroes have a chance to flee from horror fighting their way trough the corpses. Players will have to survive in the Zombie-infested city, trying to kill as many monsters as possible and eventually flying away with the last helicopter working. In fact, the winner is the first player reaching the Heliport tile, or the first to collect 25 killed Zombies.

At the beginning of the game, the Town Square is placed at the center of the table and it's the place where players start from. Remaining tiles are shuffled together to form a pile, but the Heliport is always placed at the bottom of that pile, so it will be always the last tile in the game. Each player has three Event Cards in hand, three Life tokens and three Bullet tokens. In his turn, each player must place a new tile, fights Zombies that entered his square, refills his hand of Event Cards up to three, rolls a die and moves fighting Zombies he encounters along the road, and finally rolls another die for moving Zombies.

Each time a new tile is placed, new Zombies enter into play as well, and sometimes Life and Bullet tokens may be available too, provided players are able to defeat guardians. In some tiles, Zombies are placed along the roads, while in other cases (when there are also bonus tokens available) Zombies can be placed inside buildings. Entering buildings can also be useful in order to activate some Event cards effects.

Combat is very easy, since a single die roll is needed for each opponent, resulting in victory with 4, 5 and 6; players can use Bullet tokens to raise every combat result after rolling the die. If a player is defeated in combat, he loses one Life token and when he runs out of Life tokens he's dead! Dead players can start again from the Town Square tile, with three new Life and Bullet tokens, keeping only half of their trophy stack.

Obviously, Event Cards can be used for several different effects: combat bonuses, missing turns, placing new Zombies, increase movement, and so on.

Pregi

The game is easy and quite short to play, it's amusing and nice looking. It includes a lot of plastic models and quality is very good for both cards and the box. Zombies!!! is successful in recreating the horror movie feeling, as players will be easily surrounded by monsters and the whole city will be really infested. The game is fast-paced and even with the maximum number of players it's still enjoyable.

Difetti

Map tiles should have been thicker, and their quality does not match Event cards, but the true problem is that the rulebook has some bugs. As an example, an Event card states that you can move back another moving player, but does not specify if it must be declared before or during his move, and that makes a big difference; as another example, rules does not mention what happens if you run out of Zombie models, and this is not unlikely to happen!

Besides of this, a single die roll for movement seems to be very poor, especially when the city has grown several tiles: many Event cards can only be used by reaching specific buildings, so you may find them useless when you're far away. Finally, placing the Heliport at the bottom of the tile deck isn't that exciting: parhaps it's better to place it somewhere in a random place near the end of the deck.
