Games Magazine Awards 2006

Ogni anno dal 1980, GAMES Magazine ha pubblicato una Buyer's Guide to Games nel numero di fine anno. Tranne per una o due volte nei primi anni '80, l'articolo ha enumerato e recensito 100 giochi ogni anno e per questo è stato soprannominato The GAMES 100.
Inizialmente l'articolo serviva da riferimento per molti giochi disponibili sul mercato, vecchi e nuovi, elencando grandi classici come Monopoly, Cluedo, e Scarabeo (e occasionalmente giocattoli come il Frisbee). Negli anni successivi, si è andato via via focalizzando nel riconoscimento dei migliori e più notevoli boardgame e cardgame.
Nel 1991, GAMES ha cominciato a segnalare i preferiti di ogni categoria designandoli come Best e a selezionare un unico gioco dall'intera lista onorato con il premio di Game of the Year.
Nei primi anni '90, sempre più giochi elettronici vennero inclusi nella lista, arrivando nel 1994 alla designazione di Myst come Game of the Year. A partire dall'anno seguente, i videogiochi vennero separati nell'apposita sezione Electronic Games 100.
La GAMES 100 degli ultimi anni ha incluso man mano sempre più giochi europei d'importazione e, negli scorsi anni, questi titoli hanno dominato la lista e si sono aggiudicati molti premi.
